This page sets out how Equanine reports, checks and corrects its work. It applies to every story, profile and listing on the site.

Sourcing

Factual claims are taken from named primary sources: the organisation’s own announcements and results, regulators, official statistics, company filings and on-the-record statements. Each article and profile lists its sources. Where a detail comes from another publication or from Wikipedia, we say so in the text. If we cannot confirm a fact, we leave it out rather than guess, and Directory profiles mark it as not verified.

Announced plans

New racecourses, training centres, studs, venues and investments are reported as announced plans, with the date they were stated. Capacities, opening dates and sums are those given by the operator or developer at the time and can change.

Analysis

Where we draw a conclusion from the facts, it appears under the heading “Equanine’s reading” and does not introduce facts that are not sourced above it.

A business title, not veterinary advice

Equanine writes about the business, regulation and operation of the horse and dog sectors. It does not give veterinary, training, feeding or care advice, and nothing on the site should be read as such. Decisions about an animal’s health belong with a veterinary surgeon.

Clinical and product claims

Claims about the efficacy, safety or approval of medicines, vaccines, supplements, feeds or devices are reported only from the regulator, the peer-reviewed paper or the company filing, and are attributed. We state the approval status and the jurisdiction, for example a marketing authorisation from the UK Veterinary Medicines Directorate. A company’s claim is never presented as established fact.

Studies

When we report research we name the journal, the publication date, the sample size and who funded the work, and we say whether it is a preprint or a peer-reviewed paper.

Betting and gambling

Equanine does not publish betting tips, odds or betting promotions, and does not republish live prices. Gambling advertising appears only by agreement with the publisher and is labelled as advertising.

Veterinary medicines

Prescription veterinary medicines are not advertised to the public on Equanine.

Rankings

The Top 100 Group 1 races in the Directory are the IFHA’s list, stated with its edition, its publication date and its method on every page where it appears. Equanine adds no quality judgements of its own to race, organisation or supplier profiles.

Images

Captions say whether an image shows the subject itself, an architect’s rendering or a representative photograph. Representative photographs are captioned as representative and do not imply a real animal, owner or practice.

Organisation announcements

Organisations can send announcements through the submit news page. An editor checks the sender and the original document before anything is published. Announcements we run are edited for length and style, labelled “Organisation announcement” and linked to the original. They are not Equanine reporting, and publication cannot be bought.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct the article and note the change and its date. Report an error through the submit news page and choose “Correction to an Equanine story”.

Directory listings

Profiles in the Directory are compiled by the desk from public sources. Claiming a profile or listing a company is free. A listing does not buy coverage and does not change how we report.
