Taylor Made Stallions will stand Not This Time for $300,000 stands and nurses in 2027, the Kentucky farm announced on 15 October. A day earlier, on 14 October, WinStar Farm set Life Is Good at $125,000 and Constitution at $110,000 for 2027.
Not This Time’s case
Taylor Made said Not This Time is the sire of 15 Grade 1 winners from seven crops to race, 42 graded stakes winners and 79 black-type winners. It said he is the number one general sire this season, with progeny earnings of more than $28 million, and ranks first by black-type winners (23) and graded stakes winners (14), and second by Grade 1 winners (5).
His Breeders’ Cup team is led by Magnitude, winner of the Dubai World Cup and the Stephen Foster Stakes, whom the farm describes as a leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Taylor Made also named the Grade 1 winners Rhetorical, In Our Time, Bodacious Bay and Claret Beret.
The farm’s next highest fee is $50,000 for the 2022 Preakness winner Early Voting, a son of Gun Runner whose first crop produced four TDN Rising Stars from his first seven runners, according to Taylor Made. The rest of the roster is Instilled Regard at $12,500, Arthur’s Ride at $10,000, Angel of Empire, Dr. Schivel and Idol at $5,000 each, and Instagrand at $3,500. Taylor Made said it will again offer incentives for multiple mares and previous breeders, as well as its State-Bred Initiative Program, without giving terms.
WinStar prices Life Is Good at $125,000
WinStar said Life Is Good, by Into Mischief, is the leading freshman sire by graded stakes winners, graded stakes horses and Grade 1 winners, among them the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes winner The Good Life. It said he has bred 763 mares over his first four crops, including 197 in 2026. Constitution stands for $110,000; WinStar said he is the number six general sire this season.
The farm will stand the 2025 Florida Derby winner Tappan Street, a son of Into Mischief, for $15,000 in his first season. WinStar said he was the only horse to beat Sovereignty during that colt’s three-year-old campaign. Patch Adams stands for $25,000 and Cogburn for $20,000, while Straight No Chaser, whose wins included the Riyadh Dirt Sprint in Saudi Arabia, stands for $10,000.
“The incredible start for Life Is Good has only strengthened our optimism that he can reach the top echelons of the stallion ranks.”
Liam O’Rourke, Director of Bloodstock Services, WinStar Farm
WinStar’s full list runs from Life Is Good at $125,000 down to Promises Fulfilled at $2,500, across 14 stallions. Neither farm disclosed book limits for 2027.
Equanine’s reading
- A $300,000 fee sets a high marker for the American market before the Breeders’ Cup. Studs still to publish fees will be measured against it.
- Gulf racing is now part of American stallion marketing: the horse leading Not This Time’s Breeders’ Cup team won the Dubai World Cup and WinStar cites a Riyadh win for Straight No Chaser. Owners racing in Dubai and Riyadh are, in effect, helping set these fees.
- Pricing Life Is Good at $125,000 on first-crop form is a bet that his early two-year-old results hold up. Breeders from Britain, Ireland and the Gulf weighing a Kentucky cover should set that against the established record that Not This Time’s price reflects.
