About the race

The Grosser Preis von Baden is a Group 1 race over 2,400 metres on turf at the Baden-Baden racecourse in Iffezheim, for three-year-olds and upwards. Baden Galopp GmbH & Co. KG, operator of the course since April 2021, stages it on the final Sunday of the Grosse Woche in early September. Baden Galopp says the race has been run since 1858, with some exceptions. It was worth EUR 300,000 in 2025 and 2026, and its winner receives an automatic invitation to the Japan Cup.

On 7 September 2025 the gelding Goliath, ridden by Clement Lecoeuvre and trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, led throughout to beat Dubai Honour by a length and a quarter. The IFHA rated that running at 115.75, joint 97th in the world for 2025. On 6 September 2026 Saddadd won by half a length from Parachutiste for Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum and trainer Roger Varian.
