About the race
The Metropolitan Handicap, known as the Met Mile and run as the Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap, is a Grade 1, USD 1 million race over one mile on dirt for three-year-olds and upwards. The New York Racing Association (NYRA) stages it on Belmont Stakes Day, and the winner earns a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” place in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Because the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival was held at Saratoga Race Course while Belmont Park was rebuilt, the 2025 and 2026 runnings took place there. NYRA has said Belmont Park will host the festival from 2027.
Raging Torrent won on 7 June 2025, leading throughout on a sloppy track to beat Fierceness by 2 1/2 lengths, for owners Yuesheng Zhang and Craig Dado and trainer Doug O’Neill. The 133rd running, on 6 June 2026, went to Nysos, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Flavien Prat, by four lengths in 1:34.85.
