Zara Tindall MBE will compete in the first London International Eventing Challenge at London International Horse Show on Friday 18 December 2026, the show announced on 9 October. The class takes place during the Friday evening performance and, according to the organisers, marks the debut of Arena Eventing at the show. They say it will also be Tindall’s first competitive appearance at London International Horse Show.
The show describes Tindall as an Olympic medallist and the reigning British Open Champion. It says she won the 2026 British Open Championship at Hartpury in August on Class Affair, her 17-year-old gelding, adding to a record that includes World and European Championship gold medals and Olympic team silver.
Revealed on a sponsored podcast
Her entry was first revealed on the Talk Horse podcast, hosted by Olympic event rider Pippa Funnell MBE and Tristan Phipps, in an episode released on 8 October, the day before the show’s announcement. The show’s release quotes Funnell from the episode.
We’ve got some really exciting news. Our reigning National Champion, none other than Zara Tindall, has signed up to do the Eventing Challenge at London International Horse Show.
Pippa Funnell MBE, Talk Horse co-host, as quoted by London International Horse Show
The episode is sponsored by Musto. In it, Tindall talks to Funnell and Phipps about her upbringing at Gatcombe, her partnership with Toytown and winning this year’s British Open title. It is the first of two parts, and the release says the second, with another guest alongside Tindall, is due the following week. According to the show, Talk Horse has produced more than 90 episodes, and Funnell and Phipps will host live recordings and conversations at the show on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December.
A new format for the Friday evening
The Eventing Challenge will be staged in the show’s International Arena. The hospitality enquiry form on the same page of the show’s website lists nine performances, from Thursday 17 to Monday 21 December, and bills the Friday evening session as CSI5* jumping. London International Horse Show is managed by The HPower Group Ltd and presented by Clarion Events Ltd.
The release says Tindall joins an eventing line-up but does not name any other riders. Nor does it say which horse she will ride, the level at which the class will run, who designed the course, what prize money is on offer, what Friday evening tickets cost, or the terms of Musto’s sponsorship of the podcast.
Equanine’s reading
- Confirming a rider as well known as Tindall ten weeks before the class gives the new Friday evening format a headline. The news reached the public first through a sponsored podcast and then through the show’s release, so a single rider announcement served the sponsor and the box office at once.
- Arena eventing on an evening otherwise billed for CSI5* jumping puts eventing in front of an indoor showjumping audience. If the class sells, other indoor shows have a format to copy.
- With one rider named and the level and prize money unstated, owners, sponsors and exhibitors weighing the class will want those details before December.
