About the race

The TAB Everest is a Group 1 turf sprint over 1200 metres at Royal Randwick, run in October on the Australian Turf Club’s TAB Everest Day. The race’s own website, published by Racing NSW, says runners are allocated through a slot system developed by Racing NSW: 12 slots are sold, and each slot holder chooses a horse and agrees a prize money split with its owners. The 2026 conditions, issued by Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club, set a slot licence fee of A$700,000 plus GST and prize money of A$20,000,000.

The race was first run in 2017, and its website bills the 17 October 2026 edition as the 10th running. On 18 October 2025 Ka Ying Rising (NZ), trained in Hong Kong by David Hayes and ridden by Zac Purton, won for slot holder the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The IFHA rated that running 121.00, joint 16th among the world’s top 100 Group 1 races of 2025.
