About the race
The 2000 Guineas is a Group 1 Classic over one mile on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket, open to three-year-old colts and fillies, with geldings excluded. Newmarket Racecourses states that it was first run in 1809 and that the two Guineas races were established by The Jockey Club at the suggestion of Sir Charles Bunbury. With the 1000 Guineas it forms the first two Classics of the British season, staged at the Betfred Guineas Festival. The 2026 running carried a total prize fund of GBP 525,000.
Ruling Court won the 2025 running on 3 May for Godolphin, trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick, with Field Of Gold second. Bow Echo, trained by George Boughey and ridden by Billy Loughnane, won on 2 May 2026. Newmarket lists the 2027 Guineas Festival for 30 April to 2 May 2027.
