About the race
The Coronation Cup is a Group 1 race over 1m 4f 6y at Epsom Downs in Surrey, a Jockey Club racecourse, for four-year-olds and upwards. According to Wikipedia it was established in 1902 to mark the coronation of King Edward VII. For 2026 the Jockey Club moved the race from the Friday to Derby Day, ran it as the Coolmore Coronation Cup and raised its prize fund from GBP 450,000 to GBP 1 million, changes announced in December 2025.
The 2025 running, sponsored by Betfred and staged on Friday 6 June, went to Jan Brueghel for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore, with Calandagan second. On 6 June 2026 Bay City Roller, ridden by Oisin Murphy, gave trainer George Scott his first Group 1 win in Britain. Epsom lists the 2027 running for Saturday 5 June as provisional.
