The Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup is a Group 1 staying race over two miles at Goodwood, open to three-year-olds and upwards. It was run on Tuesday 29 July 2025 and Tuesday 28 July 2026, the day before the Sussex Stakes in each year, and the official results show a winner’s prize of GBP 283,550 on both occasions. The race carries the name of its sponsor, Al Shaqab.
The 2025 running went to the three-year-old Scandinavia, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan, ahead of his stablemate Illinois, with Sweet William third. Scandinavia went on to win the St Leger at Doncaster that September. He won the Goodwood Cup again on 28 July 2026, this time under Ryan Moore, with Trawlerman second and Rahiebb third.
