About the race
The Lockinge Stakes is a Group 1 race over the straight mile at Newbury in Berkshire, open to four-year-olds and upwards and run on a Saturday in mid-May. Newbury’s history records the first running in 1958, won by Pall Mall for Queen Elizabeth II. It is the course’s only Group 1 of the Flat season. In March 2025 Newbury announced BOYLE Sports as title sponsor under a three-year agreement running to 2027, with a total prize fund of GBP 400,000.
The 2025 running on 17 May went to Lead Artist for Juddmonte, trainers John and Thady Gosden and jockey Oisin Murphy. Notable Speech, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, won on 16 May 2026. Newbury has published Saturday 15 May 2027 as the date of the next BOYLE Sports Lockinge with Ladies Day.
