About the race

The Sky Bet City of York Stakes is a seven-furlong race at York, open to three-year-olds and upwards, in which three-year-olds meet older horses. York upgraded it to Group 1 status, and it was run at that level for the first time in 2025, becoming the fourth Group 1 of the Sky Bet Ebor Festival. In 2026 it was staged on the final day of the festival, on the same card as the Sky Bet Ebor, and drew 47 entries in its second year as a Group 1.

The 2025 running on 23 August went to Never So Brave, trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Oisin Murphy, with Lake Forest second. Notable Speech, trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, won on 22 August 2026, with Lake Forest again second. York has fixed the 2027 Ebor Festival for 18 to 21 August but has not yet said which day the race will be run.
