About the race

The Mile Championship is run in November over 1,600 metres of right-handed turf at Kyoto Racecourse, for three-year-olds and upwards. The JRA established it in 1984, when Japanese races adopted the grading system, and designated it an international race in 1998. It was run at Hanshin while Kyoto Racecourse was renovated between 2020 and 2022. In 2025 it formed part of the Japan Autumn International series. The 2026 running is on 22 November with a total prize fund of JPY 390,600,000 and JPY 180,000,000 to the winner.

Jantar Mantar won the 42nd running on 23 November 2025 in a race record of 1:31.3, ridden by Yuga Kawada and trained by Tomokazu Takano for Shadai Race Horse Co., Ltd. The JRA said he became the ninth horse to win the Yasuda Kinen and the Mile Championship in the same year.
