About the race
The Yasuda Kinen is run in early June over 1,600 metres of left-handed turf at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, for three-year-olds and upwards. First run in 1951 as the Yasuda Sho, it honours Izaemon Yasuda, the first JRA president. The JRA says it became a Grade 1 in 1984 and an international race in 1993, and that three-year-olds have been eligible since 2001. The JRA’s 2025 report said it joined the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series in 2016, giving the winner an automatic start in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. The 2026 prize fund was JPY 390,600,000.
In 2025 Jantar Mantar won in 1:32.7 under Yuga Kawada for trainer Tomokazu Takano and owner Shadai Race Horse Co., Ltd. Sixpence won the 2026 running on 7 June under Yutaka Take. The JRA calendar lists the 2027 race for 6 June.
