About the race
The Tenno Sho (Autumn) is run over 2,000 metres of left-handed turf at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, for three-year-olds and upwards. The JRA traces the Tenno Sho to the Emperor’s Cup of 1905; the autumn race was established in 1937 alongside its spring counterpart, was run over 3,200 metres in its early years, was shortened to 2,000 metres in 1984 and became an international race in 2005. The 2026 running is on 1 November, with a total prize fund of JPY 651,000,000 and JPY 300,000,000 to the winner.
The 2025 running on 2 November, numbered by the JRA as the 172nd Tenno Sho, went to the three-year-old Masquerade Ball in 1:58.6 for his first G1 title. He was ridden by Christophe Lemaire and trained by Takahisa Tezuka for Shadai Race Horse Co., Ltd.
