About the race
The Takamatsunomiya Kinen is run in late March over 1,200 metres of left-handed turf at Chukyo Racecourse in Toyoake, Aichi, for four-year-olds and upwards. The JRA says it was formerly the Takamatsunomiya Cup, named in honour of Prince Takamatsunomiya, who presented the trophy in 1971. It was shortened from 2,000 to 1,200 metres and given G1 status in 1996, renamed in 1998 and designated an international race in 2001. It is the first of the JRA’s annual flat turf G1 races and, with the Sprinters Stakes, one of its two G1 sprints.
Satono Reve won the 55th running on 30 March 2025 under Joao Moreira for trainer Noriyuki Hori and owner Hajime Satomi. He defended the title on 29 March 2026 under Christophe Lemaire in a race record of 1:06.3. The 2026 prize fund was JPY 369,900,000, and the JRA calendar lists the 2027 race for 28 March.
