About the race
The Tokyo Daishoten is run on 29 December over 2,000 metres of right-handed dirt at Oi Racecourse in Shinagawa, Tokyo, for thoroughbreds aged three and upwards. Racing at Oi is organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Racing Association, and the course is known as Tokyo City Keiba (TCK). According to the National Association of Racing (NAR), it is the only G1 in local racing. It was first run in 1955 as the Aki no Kura over 2,600 metres, was renamed in 1964, opened to JRA horses in 1995, became a G1 in 1997, has been run over 2,000 metres since 1998 and has been an international G1 since 2011.
The 71st running, on 29 December 2025, was won by the Oi-based gelding Diktaean, ridden by Takayuki Yano for trainer Katsunori Arayama. The NAR said he was the first locally based winner for 20 years. The winner received JPY 100,000,000, the same first prize the NAR lists for 2026.
