What is planned
Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) is building an all-weather track at Tipperary Racecourse, which would be Ireland’s second after Dundalk. The Government approved HRI’s business case on 14 November 2025, The Irish Field reported, and Minister Martin Heydon turned the sod on 12 February 2026, according to Thoroughbred Daily News. Atlantic Golf Construction holds the main contract, with Martin Collins Enterprises supplying the Polytrack surface and McSherry Electrical the floodlights.
The racecourse website says it is closed for the development until October 2027. HRI aims to run a full winter programme in 2027/28 and to keep turf jumping fixtures, with training on the main track and on a new deep sand gallop. The Irish Field reported that the Minister consented to a commercial loan facility of €34 million for phase one. A total cost has not been published on the pages reviewed.
