About the race
The Sprinters Stakes is run in late September over 1,200 metres of right-handed turf at Nakayama Racecourse in Funabashi, Chiba, for three-year-olds and upwards. The JRA says it was established in 1967, became a spring G3 when grading began in 1984, a G2 in 1987 and a G1 in 1990, when it moved to the latter part of the season. It was one of the first JRA races open to overseas runners, and the JRA pairs it with the spring Takamatsunomiya Kinen as the top events for sprinters. The 2026 prize fund was JPY 369,900,000.
The eight-year-old Win Carnelian won in 2025 under Kosei Miura for trainer Yuichi Shikato and owner Win Co., Ltd. The 60th running, on 27 September 2026, went to the mare Puro Magic, who led throughout under Mirai Iwata. The JRA calendar lists the 2027 race for 26 September.
